Is it true that honey should never be heated because it produces carcinogens?

The carcinogen hydroxyfurfural forms even in hot tea when honey is added. However, this carcinogen does not only appear when honey is heated, but also when sugars are heated. Because of this, there is some amount of it in jam, confectionery products that have been heat treated.

Don't be alarmed, hydroxyfurfural is not the strongest carcinogen. But it is better not to abuse such products.
